| The law requires that children attend school every day. Pupils absent should have a note to explain their absence when they return. In the event of a prolonged absence, the school should be advised of the cause by phone. If a parent wishes a child to leave school early then parents are to sign their child/children out at the office and then children can be collected from the classroom. Children are only allowed to leave school early with their parents. If someone else is collecting a child from school a note provided by the parent must be taken to the office and shown to the class teacher. All children arriving after 9.20am are to report to the school office, they will be given a late note to take to the class teacher. Visitors are to sign in and out at the school office. A badge will be issued for them to wear whilst on the school premises. This procedure needs to be followed to enhance school security and assist with evacuation procedures in case of an emergency. The school has a first aid/sick bay. Children attend the sick bay if injured or ill at school. If minor, children will be treated by the first aid officer and the illness or injury noted in our register. However, parents will be contacted if the sick or injured child needs further attention. If we are unable to contact parents, the first aid officer, in consultation with the principal or delegate will call for an ambulance or contact the child’s doctor. If a child is required to take prescribed medicines for a short-term illness eg. influenza, etc., it is preferable, (due to legal implications), that parents administer the medication themselves. Children who take medication long term, should give the medication clearly labelled to the office staff with a note. It is the child’s responsibility to report at the times medication is needed to be given. No medication will be given without written instructions and children are not allowed to keep any medications in their school bag. It is essential that all families keep their contact details current as this assists the school in contacting parents at home or at work when children are ill or when an accident occurs. The school should be informed immediately of changes of address or telephone number. Should an emergency arise every effort will be made to contact parents but the school reserves the right to obtain medical treatment if it is considered necessary. Bus or rail passes are available for free travel for all infants children and for primary children living more than 1.6 km from the school. Please contact the school office or the Department of Transport for information. (www.transport.nsw.gov) Parents have a right to register any concerns they might have about any aspect of school life. Issues can usually be resolved easily at school by approaching the staff member concerned or the appropriate Assistant Principal. Complaints can also be drawn to the attention of the principal. Complaint resolution procedures provide methods by which concerns can be registered with a view to resolution. |
