| Our Concert Band is the flagship of our arts program. The band is comprised of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Children are encouraged to own their instruments but the school also has a selection of instruments for pupil hire. A high level of dedication is needed, with many practices held outside class hours. Specialist tutors are employed to tutor each section of the band and all students must pay a fee to participate in band. The band performs for school and community functions and is held in high esteem. The program is supported by our intermediate and training band. Jazz dance is offered to students as an extra-curricular activity. There is a cost involved for student participation as a specialist dance teacher is employed to teach jazz. Students perform at school and community functions. Performances of an educational nature are used to supplement class work or to act as a stimulus for a unit of work. Usually one a semester, costs are kept to a minimum and it is desirable that all pupils attend. Excursions are organised to supplement work done in the classroom. They act as a springboard for ideas in oral and written language and in other curriculum areas. If financial restraints are a problem arrangements can be made to enable all students to participate. |
